PLA

FDM

PLA (polylactic acid) is the most common FDM material. It dimensionally stable, great for prototypes, concept models, and low-wear toys. However, it lacks the temperature resistance offered by most other materials offer.

Best Uses

  • Prototypes

  • Concept Models

  • Low wear Toys

  • Parts that do not require temperature resistance

Characteristics

  • Brittle fracture at failure

  • Rigid and hard

  • Semi-gloss

Strengths

  • Low cost

  • Best detail and dimensional accuracy of FDM Materials

  • Best choice for large FDM parts

  • Good inter-layer adhesion (layer bonding)

  • Biodegradable in industrial compost

Weaknesses
